Our Presenting Sponsor
Motherhood is powerful—and it requires support. We prepare for labor. We prepare the nursery. But too often, no one prepares mothers for what comes after birth. EmpowerMOM exists to change that.
This event was created to close the gap between pregnancy and postpartum by bringing education, community, and culturally competent support directly to families. It also exists to bring birthworkers together—because mothers are best supported by coordinated care, not isolated services.
No mother should feel confused, dismissed, or alone during the fourth trimester. And no birthworker should have to work in silos. EmpowerMOM exists so mothers leave with clarity, connection, and confidence in advocating for themselves—before, during, and after birth.
Why EmpowerMOM Exists
EmpowerMOM is not your typical baby shower. There are no games, no pressure to perform joy, and no focus on everyone except the mother. EmpowerMOM is a maternal wellness experience designed to center you—your body, your recovery, your mental health, and your life after birth.
EmpowerMOM gatherings take place two to three times a year, creating intentional spaces for mothers, families, and birthworkers to come together for education, connection, and support.
Currently hosted in Atlanta, Georgia, EmpowerMOM is rooted in community-based care and culturally competent support, with plans to expand to cities across the United States. Whether you are pregnant, newly postpartum, planning for the future, or supporting a mother you love, this space was created to prepare you for what truly matters beyond delivery day.
At EmpowerMOM, mothers are connected to trusted birth and postpartum professionals in one space. This team-based approach brings birthworkers and families together to build real relationships and support systems that extend beyond the event. You will leave feeling informed, supported, and reminded that you matter too.
About the Event
EmpowerMOM was founded by Dr. Phindile Chowa, an emergency-trained physician, maternal health advocate, and mother who understands firsthand what it means to navigate pregnancy and postpartum in a system that often falls short.
Through years of practicing emergency medicine, Dr. Chowa witnessed the consequences of inadequate postpartum care, women returning to the hospital with preventable complications, unanswered questions, and unmet needs after birth. Over time, it became clear that the issue wasn’t a lack of resilience among mothers but a lack of preparation, continuity, and support after delivery. Her passion for postpartum advocacy is also deeply personal. As a mother, Dr. Chowa experienced the physical and emotional realities of the fourth trimester and recognized how isolating and confusing that period can be even for those with medical knowledge. EmpowerMOM was created at the intersection of these experiences.
Dr. Chowa founded EmpowerMOM to bring mothers and birthworkers into the same space, foster collaboration instead of silos, and ensure families have access to education, culturally competent care, and trusted support before and after birth. Her mission is simple but urgent: to change how we support mothers so no one is left navigating the fourth trimester alone.
